Although mobile phones were developed in order to help us make telephone calls whilst out and about, it seems as though these handy devices have long since outlasted such outdated concepts.
Recent studies have found that making phone calls don’t feature in the Top 10 list for the most common things that we use our smartphones for. So what are the most popular activities that people use their mobile phone for today?
Despite texting being somewhat retro, it seems that 88% of us still text on a daily basis according to a poll published by the Daily Express. And although 70% of us will send a daily email, it looks like it is those social media sites that will occupy much of our mobile time.
62% of 2,000 people surveyed earlier this year check into Facebook at least once a day on their mobile devices. And with apps like Instagram and Snapchat encouraging us to use our smartphones’ cameras to make our communication much more visual, it seems as though we may even lose the power of speech one day!
The survey also showed that we’re starting to use our smartphones as our main source of reading the news. Whether this is news about Jennifer Lopez’ horoscope or even stories about the latest gaming entertainment, it seems as though our mobiles are in danger of putting traditional magazines and newspapers out of business.
It’s also been interesting to see how our smartphones are becoming our entertainment portals. As well as the growing popularity of gaming apps meaning that mobiles are capable of providing us with augmented reality treats like Pokémon Go and a huge range of jackpot slots games at InterCasino, we’re also watching movies and TV shows on our smartphones.
Apps like Netflix are able to turn our smartphones into handheld televisions, and with 42% of us watching videos via the YouTube mobile app every day, it looks like our entertainment methods have become much more mobile.
Even financial tasks like ordering groceries from a supermarket or checking the state of current accounts at our bank have become a normal feature of daily smartphone use.
And whilst playing Jackpot Slots, watching movies, or reading about our favorite celebrities’ star-signs might all seem like futuristic ways to use our mobile tech, it’s comforting to find that 54% of us do the relatively humdrum daily task of checking the weather from our smartphones!
