Whitney Houston has died. Family and friends mourn the loss of one of the greatest singers of all time. In town for the Clive Davis Grammy party, Whitney’s body was tragically discovered by a family member at the Beverly Hilton today. Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55pm.

Her ex husband, Bobby Brown, devastated by the loss of the love of his life, reached out to family members before the tragic news was released. “He wanted to tell everyone about it before it hit the news,” one of his relatives tells PEOPLE. “He didn’t want any of us to hear about it on television.”

Overwhelmed by grief, Bobby Brown’s relatives said, “He could hardly get the words out when he called me,” says one family member. “He was sobbing, and by the end of the call, I was sobbing too. He’s beside himself right now.”

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston were married for 15 years and had one child together. They had a tumultuous relationship but they had a tremendous love for one another. Together, they had one beautiful daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who was the light of her parents life.

Whitney was in town to attend the famous Clive Davis Grammy party tonight. It’s reported the party will go on and will be a tribute to the late singer and a celebration of Whitney Houston’s life.
