Jani Lane, former lead singer of glam rock band Warrant, was found dead in a motel room in Woodland Hills, California this evening. The 47 year old singer, had been fighting a 20 year deadly battle with his drug and alcohol addiction. No official cause of death has been released but is a suspected drug overdose.
Known for his golden flowing hair , killer smile and a voice that reflected 1970s era of arena rockstars, Lane wrote many of Warrant’s songs, including “Down Boys,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” “Cherry Pie,” and the band’s biggest hit, the 1989 ballad “Heaven.”
On Twitter, friends posted the following condolences over Jani Lane’s death. “We’d like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Jani Lane regarding their loss,” wrote Bret Michaels. “Respectfully, Bret and all at MEGI.”
WWE Wrestler and Dancing With the Stars contestant Chris Jericho: “Sad to hear about the passing of Jani Lane. Jani was a good guy and one of the best songwriters in the late 80s Dog Eat Dog-very underrated.”
Born on February 1, 1964 born under the sign of Aquarius, Jani Lane was originally from Akron, Ohio. As an Aquarius, he was free spirited and would do anything for a friend. Jani Lane’s last appearance was on July 23rd, where he appeared on That Metal Show. On June 13th, he posted the following personal message to fans.
“Hi y’all, I am currently planning to spend summer with family and continue writing and recording with Keri Kelli (Alice Cooper) and Dito Godwin (producer: No Doubt..etc) for myself and other artists. I’m excited and feeling very creative! I hope to have something out by fall and hit the road with a new lineup this winter. Thanks to all the friends/ fans for being patient and supportive. I will be putting up some of the best “Jabberwocky” recordings I have on this site. I even am considering rerecording a few for the new project. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been up to…see you all soon!!!” PS…”possible record deal in the works and writers deal… more info to come!” Sadly, he will have to save his new music for the big rock stage in the sky.
Jani Lane, is survived by his estranged wife Kimberly Nash, who he married in March 2010. Also, his ex wife Bobbi Brown, who he has one daughter with. RIP Jani Lane, thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
