Last night, fans said goodbye to Big Love. In series finale shocker, Bill Henrickson was shot by his disgruntled neighbor and died surrounded by his three loving wives. In the end, Barbara gave her husband a church blessing before he found his way to heaven. Were fans happy the way the Big Love series ended by killing off the main character?
For Astrochicks it was a sad ending, so much drama and turmoil, with Bill Henrickson losing his life over fighting for his beliefs. Entertainment Weekly wrote: “The one thing I really wanted out of the Big Love finale was for Barb, Nicki, and Margene to break free of Bill and discover who they are without him. I thought it would happen with Bill going to jail for statutory rape, but instead it came with the poor guy being shot to death by his neighbor Carl, a desperate and broken man who blamed Bill for everything that had gone wrong in his life. But rather than falling apart, the family — as we learned from the brief, and in my opinion, moving and uplifting epilogue — not only stayed together, but flourished. So who are Barb, Nicki, and Margene without Bill? They are themselves — only better. Barb, who was revealed to Bill in his dying moments as a priesthood holder (or perhaps even the next Prophet?), has joined Bill’s church and recently gave a blessing to Bill’s first grandchild. Margene is living her dream to serve others on another international volunteer mission, while Nicki remains the family’s snippy but loving superego. (And clearly she’s patched things up with her daughter Cara Lynn, who appears briefly in the final scene, with her luxurious blonde locks at long last freed from their oppressive braid.)”
In the end, the show was about life, love, religious difference, and making a marriage work. No matter how complicated, in the end it’s about family and the people we share our lives with. Astrochicks will miss Bill Henrickson and his sister wives. RIP Big Love!
