Julian Assange Wikileaks founder, was arrested in London yesterday and has been denied bail. Assange will be housed in a local British prison until his trail hearing on December 14th, where the magistrate will decide whether or not to extradite Assange, for an alleged rape in Sweden. Julian Assange feeling the financial squeeze, after his Swiss bank was closed today. Bank officials say Assange provided false information about his residency status. The money held in his various bank accounts will be returned to him.

The Guardian reports, various celebrity supporters in the UK, have stepped forward to pledge money for Assange’s bail. Hugh Grant’s former girlfriend millionairess Jemima Khan, offered $20,000 pounds or more if necessary. In a statement later, Khan said: “I make no judgment of Julian Assange as an individual as I have never met him. I am offering my support to him as I believe in the universal right to freedom of information and our right to be told the truth.” On her Twitter feed last month, Khan asked if Assange was “the new Jason Bourne”, a reference to the fictional action hero created by the thriller writer Robert Ludlum. The post has since been deleted.

If JulianAssange is returned to Sweden to face charges, he should be thankful that prisoners in Sweden are treated incredibly well. As a former resident of  Stockholm, the Swedish prison system is not severe and prison cells look like an Ikea bachelor studio. As you can see in the photos above, it could even be a college dorm in America. A life sentence in Sweden is actually only “15 years.” Assange’s lawyers REAL concern is that Sweden will extradite him back to the US, where politicians believe he deserves a life sentence for his actions.

Claes Borgstrom, the Swedish lawyer representing both alleged victims, insisted their allegations were not connected to Wikileaks. He said: “Mr Assange is lying when he says that my clients are part of a US led conspiracy against him and Wikileaks. “It is two ordinary Swedish women who admired Assange for his work.”

Love him or hate him, Julian Assange has given the world a wake up call on what is considered top secret. His web site Wikileaks, has turned American foreign policy upside down and it appears time has run out for Assange. Some people believe Assange is a hero, others think he is a traitor, and Astrochicks thinks his ego got too big.  Assange became his own worst enemy. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.  Stay tuned.
