The parents of former Bachelorette contestant, Julien Hug, confirmed that their son committed suicide in a California desert earlier this week. Shocked and heartbroken over the loss of their only child, Bertrand and Denis Hug struggle to find answers on why he choose to take his own life. On the surface, Julien Hug appeared to be a positive, upbeat, and incredibly handsome guy. Underneath the exterior, was a deep sadness he could not shake.
Bertrand and Denis Hug say that Julien told them in a letter “that he was suffering from acute depression and he felt it was his only way out. While publicly outgoing he was an extremely private person who internalized everything. They also said: “Our son meant the world to us and this came as a complete shock. We are beyond devastated and completely distraught. … What we saw was his thirst for life with fast cars, motorcycles and his love of skydiving.” Such a tragedy.
Julien Hug’s girlfriend of two years, Jennifer Bell, is completely devastated over the loss over her soulmate. She says, “We talked about getting married in Montauban, France. I had two of the best years of my life with him. They have been nothing but pure happiness to me. Julien was my life and I’m so devastated. He was my best friend. Maybe he was masking pain that we don’t know yet. Maybe he was wearing a costume. But regardless of whatever happened, we lost a beautiful man. A beautiful soul. I lost part of my life. His death is so unexpected.”Depression is a deadly disease, that millions of people suffer from daily. It’s an important reminder to tell people you care about that you love them and to how compassion towards others.
Julien Hug’s funeral will be held on November 12th. The public is invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, Bertand Hug asks well-wishers to send donations to the Julien Hug Foundation, c/o of the The Village Community Presbyterian Church at 6225 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., 92067. Astrochicks thoughts and prayers go out to Julien Hug’s family, friends, and girlfriend Jennifer Bell. May he rest in peace.
