American Idol might have a big shake up this season, out with the old and in with the new. Fox wants fire all existing judges and bring back a couple of old ones. Nigel Lythgoe a former producer for American Idol, is in negotiations to return as Executive Producer and to take Simon Cowell’s place as resident snark. It’s reported that Nigel is tasked with making American Idol number one again. He reportedly wants to get rid of Randy Jackson, Kara and Ellen.
A few months ago, when Nigel Lythgoe was asked to critique Ellen’s first year as a judge, he was not impressed. With Randy “Dog” Jackson who has become a complete bore, even Judge Kara DioGuardi’s contract has not been renewed. If Nigel wipes the slate clean, he can start all over with a fresh panel. Will he bring Paul Abdul back? According to American Idol sources, if she wants her judges seat back, Paula can certainly have it.
Fox TV wants to lure Lythgoe, who produced “Idol” for its first six years, back to reboot the highly rated talent show following the exit of judge Simon Cowell. He currently produces and judges Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
If Paula Abdul and Nigel take the judges seat, who will be the third judge? Bret Michaels, Sean P. Diddy, and even Chris Isaak are reportedly interested. I would like to see Ellen stay, I definitely would like to see Kara go.
It’s reported American Idol will make the big announcement sometime in August. Stay tuned.
