Governor Jan Brewer made Arizona state history by passing one of the toughest immigration laws in this country last week. Brewer who was not actually voted into office, became Governor by default when she replaced Janet Napolitano who resigned to become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security in January 2009. Wow, what a difference a year makes!
Over the last year, Brewer has made broken promises in regards to the controversial immigration bill. She was quoted as saying, “In regards to Senate Bill 1070, I will tell you that I never make comment, like most governors throughout our country, before a bill reaches my desk. But I hear you, and I will assure you that I will do what I believe is the right thing so that everyone is treated fairly.” As most Arizonians know now, along with the thousands of petrified illegals, Governor Jan Brewer maybe be a lot of things but FAIR is not one of them.
The new law makes it a crime for U.S. citizens to live with, drive, or otherwise “harbor” people they know to be “illegal aliens” (like their parents or siblings), requires local cops to enforce immigration laws, and permits Arizonans to sue public officials who aren’t rounding up “illegals” to their satisfaction.
What else does Governor Jan Brewer support? The Governor signed legislation that entitled persons in Arizona to carry guns into bars. She also signed a bill that allows Arizona citizens to conceal weapons without having to get a permit. Awesome, drunks with concealed guns, sounds like a party.
She also wants a BIG state tax hike. To show she’s an equal opportunity Governor, she’s eliminated State Children’s Health Insurance Program for families who cannot afford health care. Not to worry, she hates Obama’s health care plan also and hopes to repeal that as well.
Last but not least, she repealed legislation put into place by the former governor Janet Napolitano, which had granted domestic partners of state employees the ability to be considered “dependents.” Well with one swoop of her pen, not no more. I guess she’s not a fan of gay rights.
Personally, I think this Governor is dangerous. In one year, she’s done so much damage to the state of Arizona that I only see foreclosure and crime rising, while the economy will continue to go down the toilet. Hopefully for Arizona’s sake, she will be voted out of office in November and a more sensible politician will take her place.
