Pavel Astkhov, a Russian official has confirmed Artem Saveliev, the seven year old boy abandoned by his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen, is not a US citizen. The boy has been in protective custody since last week, when his adoptive grandmother placed him on a plane to Moscow unattended, with a note written by his mother saying “I no longer wish to care for this child.”
Fortunately for Artem, the Russian trusteeship and guardianship agencies have already found a family for the boy to live with. According to Astakhov, the married couple has already raised two orphaned children. His new parents who are diplomats, speak both Russian and English, which is important for the boy he said.
His former adoptive mother, Torry Hansen is still wanted for questioning by federal officials and local police in Tennessee. She may face abandonment and other related criminal charges. Because of her shocking actions, Moscow has suspended all pending adoptions of orphaned Russian children by US citizens.
Thoughts and prayers go out to little Artem. Hopefully his new family will give him the love and support that he needs.
