Tonight on Broadway, the lights dimmed for Natasha Richardson one last time. Surrounded by family and friends, Liam Neeson greeted mourners and thanked them for their love and support during this difficult time.

Neeson, was embraced by fellow actors, including Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, following the moving tribute. Her mother Vanessa Redgrave, sister Joely Richardson, and her brother Carlo also attended the event.  Her mother, overwhelmed with emotion, thanked family and friends.

“The Broadway community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our finest young actresses,” said Charlotte St Martin, director of the Broadway League.

She won a number of awards including a Tony for best actress in a musical for her performance as Sally Bowles in Sam Mendes’ production of Cabaret on Broadway in 1998.

A family spokesman said her actor husband Liam Neeson, 56, and their two young sons are “profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone”.

He added they have asked to be left in private “during this very difficult time”. She will be sadly missed.
