I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and taking advantage of all the great movies that are out right now. I’m not a big Tom Cruise fan, but I do think he’s getting a bad rap on his new film Valkyrie. According to Perez Hilton, the movie is a big dud. Personally, I think it’s actually a great film. I’m not a big war buff, but my boyfriend wanted to see the movie, and of course I tagged along. In fact, I was surprised that I really liked it. Also, Tom looks EXACTLY like Claus Von Staffenberg, they could be brothers.

Anyhoo, Tom Cruise our Cancer boy, has been living a publicity nightmare for the last few years. First it started with his couch jumping episode on Oprah, his crazy interviews about Scientology, and of course his VERY public split with Paramount.

Cruise is noted as having negotiated some of the most lucrative movie deals in Hollywood, and was described in 2005 by Hollywood economist Edward Jay Epstein as “one of the most powerful – and richest – forces in Hollywood”. Epstein argues that Cruise is one of the few producers (the others being George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer) who are regarded as able to guarantee the success of a billion-dollar movie franchise. Epstein also contends that the public obsession with Cruise’s tabloid controversies obscures full appreciation of Cruise’s exceptional commercial prowess in the industry.

Personally, I prefer Tom Cruise in comedies. I thought he was great in Jerry Maguire and Tropic Thunder. I think if he starts focusing more on family friendly and fun movies, it will improve his reputation among fans. Plus, his ADORABLE daughter Suri Cruise, is a big PR plus. Although I don’t agree with his religious views, I think he’s an amazing actor. Definitely check out the movie, it’s really worth seeing. I give it two thumbs up.
