Imagine you’re a 14 year old boy from California, your Mom takes you on a roadtrip to Nebraska, when you arrive she
dumps you off at a hospital, because she can’t “deal” with you anymore. It’s a week before Thanksgiving, a month before Christmas, and all of sudden you’re a thousand miles away from home.
This is a true story for a young teen boy, who was the 36th child to be abandoned at a Nebraska hospital. Jerk off parents, haven taken advantage of the new “safe haven” law, that allows parents to drop off children at the hospital. The lawmakers forgot to put a age restriction on the law, so now parents are driving from out of state to drop off unwanted toddlers and teenagers at the hospital.
In February, Nebraska became the last state to pass a safe-haven law, designed to encourage young mothers to leave unwanted children at hospitals, rather than deposit them in dumpsters or worse.
But Nebraska allowed any minor up to 18 to be left without criminal liability. One Omaha woman, the legal guardian of her schizophrenic, 13-year-old great-niece, abandoned the girl after she tried to jump from a moving car. A mother in Pender, Neb., left her 11-year-old son at an Omaha hospital after the boy stopped taking his medications and threatened to kill her and his siblings. An Omaha man left nine of his 10 children after his wife died.
At least five parents came from other states — as far as Arizona and Washington — to abandon their children. Calls grew for a special session to revise the law.
“It’s a traumatic experience that can scar a kid for life,” said state Sen. Ernie Chambers, the first to push for a special session. “These children who are being dropped off are old enough to understand what’s happening to them.”
In another story, two teens, one 17 and 14, were tricked by their unfit mother, and were told they were visiting their older sister (28) who was in the hospital. Of course, this was a complete lie. Once the kids found out, the older teen girl took off. The 14 year old boy was placed with relatives. According to the 28 year old sister, the teens were not problems, held jobs, and one was graduating this year. The real problem was the MOTHER, who couldn’t be bothered anymore. SICK!!!
I’m sorry, these parents should be dropped off at the local jail, and given at LEAST one year MINIMUM. These parents photos should be posted in local newspapers and national magazines, as “Worst Parents of the Year.” How tragic and how upsetting for these kids. One man dropped off NINE KIDS!!! Don’t these parents have relatives or friends that can help them out? This is crazy. The parents NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for the children they bring into this world.
It breaks my heart, children are a gift of life. Not a piece of trash to be dumped off somewhere. I understand the parents need help. What about your local church, or a private agency? It sounds like to me, many parents are lacking the appropriate “parenting tools” to raise these kids. Why are they troubled? It usually means they may have been abused, neglected, or worse.
I’m hoping Obama’s new administration will address these type of problems. So sad! To view the entire list of the abandoned children, click here.
