John Mayer is working on his “macho image,” but shows his softer side as well. He recently did his tour of duty at a local Marines base in Jacksonville, N.C.
He shot machine guns, practiced his karate moves on other Marines, and visited wounded Iraq war veterans.
The crooner recently spent the day with Marines at Air Station New River and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. “Believe me when I say that the day was life-changing,” John said of his visit to the base, which included shooting a machine gun, sparring with marines trained in the martial art of Krav Maga and visiting wounded Iraq veterans.
“It was an awesome day,” Staff Sgt. Angela Mink tells OK!. “I think John would make a good marine — but I wouldn’t want him to give up the blues guitar!”
I tend bag on John Mayer, after all he broke Jennifer Aniston’s heart. Also, he’s a heartbreaking Libra dude. I actually really like his music and I think it’s cool that he took the time to visit wounded soldiers. He’s slowly getting on my good side, I just wonder when he’s finally going to hook up with Kate Hudson.

When George Bush tells us that he is the most devoted Christian since the Apostles, we should believe him, take him at his word and we should therefore conclude that he certainly has memorized, over and over again, in his Bible reading classes and in church, the famous definition of ‘hypocrite’ that’s given in the gospels. Namely, the hypocrite is the person who applies to others standards that he refuses to apply to himself. So if you are not a hypocrite you assume that if something is right for us then it’s right for them and if it is wrong when they do it, it is wrong when we do it.NoamChomskyNoam Chomsky, From Distorted Morality: America’s War on Terror?, Feb 2002
