Oh no she didn’t, is the Ugly Betty star taking a stand against teen soap operas? According to a recent interview with
Seventeen Magazine, she says shows like Gossip Girl and 90210, glamorize teen pettiness and backstabbing.
She tells Seventeen magazine, “Close, genuine female relationships are not what generally gets depicted in movies and TV shows. Like, if you’re watching The Hills, or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes the way we act – you go to school and you think your job is to find a sworn enemy and be jealous of each other. Shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean.”
I think popular shows like Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters, Gossip Girl, Entourage, The Bachelor, and a bunch of others shows glamorize drama. We have 25 women fighting over one bachelor, now love is a competition. In America, we’re bred to compete. Whether it’s sports, beauty contests, careers, reality shows, college entrance, etc. I have to admit, they are still fun to watch. What do you think?
