Such sad news. Blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker, and good buddy DJ AM (Adam Goldstein – Nicole Ritchies ex fiancee) were critically injured in a plane crash early this morning. Barker is reported to be suffering from severe burns and was airlifted to the hospital.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, four people — two passengers and two crew members — were killed when a Lear jet crashed shortly after takeoff in Columbia, South Carolina. Barker and Goldstein were admitted to the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday, where they are being treated for extensive burns.
Travis Barker, DJ AM, Gavin DeGraw, and Perry Ferrell had played a free concert for TRVSDJ-AM in Columbia on Friday night. DeGraw and Farrell were not on the plane.
Wow, this is such a bummer. According to Perez Hilton:
A South Carolina resident named William Owens was driving down a highway next to the airport when he said he saw a fireball go across the road. He told local TV station WIS News 10:
“I didn’t know what I had seen — it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though I made out a fire. By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet,” Owens said.
Owens then described what he saw as he tried to make it to the wreckage.
“It’s in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the fuel to get to the two guys that seemed to have been dumped on the highway,” Owens said.
Owens said the two men (Travis and DJ AM!) were running around and stripping down to extinguish themselves. He then asked the men if there was anyone else on board the plane and they said four more were with them.
“We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do,” Owens said.
Our prayers go out to Barker, DJ AM (Adam Goldstein), and the other families.
This is such a tragedy…I met “Lil Chris” Baker through my sister Terry. Chris lived across the street from her house in Fontana, Ca. before moving out to Studio City and working with Travis. He was the nicest person anyone could ever meet. From the moment I met him, I liked him. He was always there for my sister and her 3 adopted boys. Since my sister was a single mom, Chris was like the “big brother” always lecturing and mentoring the boys. My sister is devasted and so are her boys. They would so much like to attend his services; so if anyone knows when and where, we would appreciate the info. I also would like to send my condolences to his wife and child, as well as his mother and rest of his family and friends.
